Our Story

Art, clay, colour and one very unexpected pottery workshop.

Hello, I’m Sarah 👋

I’m Sarah Duck, the artist, maker and pair of paint-covered hands behind Little Duck Studios.

Little Duck Studios is my little corner of creativity, where watercolour, pottery and homewares come together to make everyday spaces feel a little more interesting, colourful and full of personality.

But it actually started with clay.

It started with a plate...

Back in high school, I took a small ceramics class and made a large glazed plate. It wasn’t particularly fancy, but for some reason it stuck with me. Of all the things I created at school, it was the piece I loved most.

A few years later, I found myself in a bit of a creative rut. One evening, somewhere in the depths of an endless Facebook scroll, I spotted a local pottery workshop and decided to give ceramics another go.

What I hadn't realised was that the workshop involved making ceramic vaginas.

Not quite the gentle reintroduction to pottery I had imagined.

I stayed anyway.

And I’m very glad I did.

There was something about working with clay by hand that immediately clicked. The texture, the imperfections, the process of slowly turning a lump of clay into something completely individual.

I enrolled in a full hand-building course at my local pottery studio soon afterwards, started collecting tools and materials, and eventually created a small studio of my own at home.

Little Duck Studios had begun.

Then came paint...

Over time, my creativity started wandering beyond the pottery bench.

I began picking up my watercolours more often, painting flowers, Australian botanicals and eventually whatever slightly strange idea happened to wander into my head.

And I realised I didn’t want Little Duck Studios to be defined by one material.

I wanted it to be a place for making.

Today, Little Duck Studios brings together original watercolour artwork, art prints, hand-built pottery and thoughtfully chosen homewares, with new collections built around different ideas, colours, places, seasons and stories.

Some collections might begin as a tiny watercolour painting. Others might start with a piece of clay, an interesting colour combination or an idea scribbled somewhere it probably shouldn't have been.

The fun is seeing where they end up.

Made slowly. Made to be kept.

There’s something I love about objects that clearly have a human behind them.

A brushstroke that isn’t perfectly straight. A slightly wonky rim. The tiny differences between two pieces that technically started with the same idea.

Little Duck Studios celebrates those details.

Rather than chasing constant newness, I want to create thoughtful collections of art and objects that bring creativity, colour and character into your home.

Things to hang on your walls, use around your home, give to someone you love or simply keep because they make you smile every time you walk past them.

Some are painted.

Some are made from clay.

Some may become prints, textiles or other homewares.

And there are plenty of ideas still waiting their turn.

From my studio to your home

Little Duck Studios is an independent Australian creative studio based in Brisbane, with every collection beginning here through painting, sketching, experimenting, making and usually quite a lot of trial and error.

The studio is growing and changing alongside me, but the idea at its heart is simple:

Create art and objects that make everyday spaces feel a little less ordinary.

And yes, that ceramic vagina still hangs proudly in my studio.

Because apparently one very unexpected pottery workshop can change the direction of your life.
