Art, clay, colour and one very unexpected pottery workshop.

Hello, I'm Sarah.

I'm Sarah Duck, the artist and maker behind Little Duck Studios, a creative studio based in Brisbane.

I make original watercolour paintings, handmade pottery and colourful things for your home. Most days you'll find me with a paintbrush or a lump of clay in my hands, usually with several projects on the go and another idea waiting its turn.

I love experimenting with colour, interesting shapes and different materials. I don't always know where an idea will end up, but that's half the fun.

It started with a plate... 

Back in high school, I made a large glazed ceramic plate. It wasn't particularly fancy, but I loved it, and it stuck with me long after I'd stopped making pottery.

Years later, feeling like I needed something creative in my life again, I booked myself into a pottery workshop I'd spotted on Facebook.

What I hadn't realised was that we'd be making ceramic vaginas.

Not quite the pottery refresher I'd imagined.

But I stayed, remembered how much I loved working with clay and signed up for a full ceramics course soon afterwards. Eventually, with a growing collection of tools and a lot of encouragement, Little Duck Studios began taking shape.

And yes, that ceramic vagina still hangs on my studio wall.

From clay to colour. 

Pottery was where it started, but my ideas didn't stay in one place for long.

I began painting more often, filling pages with flowers, Australian botanicals, animals and whatever else caught my imagination. Before long, watercolour became just as much a part of Little Duck Studios as clay.

Today, I create original paintings, art prints, handmade ceramics and homewares, with plenty more ideas still waiting their turn.

I love the little details that make something feel handmade. The visible brushstrokes, the slightly wonky edges and the small differences that give each piece its own character.

More than anything, I want to make things you'll enjoy living with.
